What is Sustainability?

The UN World Commission on Environment & Development states the following:

“Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

How will Gillmore meet its Sustainability goal? Commonly referred to as ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance), this provides the framework for the 3 pillars that fundamentally underpin Sustainable business activities. At Gillmore, we have adopted this approach and using this framework have a series of policies and plans in place to ensure that we achieve our Sustainability goal. 2. Set realistic short, medium and long-term targets that are designed to achieve our Net Zero commitments
  3. Report the total Greenhouse Gas emissions of our business regularly and for our performance to be part of the Community’s annual reporting back to the UNFCCC

Our Policy

At Gillmore we recognise that all business activities, most notably manufacturing processes, have the potential to cause environmental harm and that the world's resources are not limitless. Therefore we accept a social and moral responsibility for putting into place environmentally friendly measures which go beyond legislative requirements.

We appreciate that expressing concern for the environment is not a substitute for positive action in favour of the environment, and willingly accept the fact that financial and manpower resources have to be allocated to ensure that good environmental practice is carried out in all areas of the company's operations.

Through measurement and examination of the impact of our own activities, we seek to eliminate or reduce pollution. Gillmore has made a conscious policy decision to explore every avenue open to us to ensure that care of the environment is a key consideration in our work practices, processes and methods of operation.

  1. Quantify and monitor all environmental impacts of the business, including new projects, and set specific targets
  2. Comply with current legislation and, where practical, seek to meet future legislative requirements ahead of relevant deadlines
  3. Integrate environmental objectives into relevant business decisions in a cost-efficient manner
  4. Require all colleagues to address environmental responsibilities within the framework of normal operating procedures
  5. Minimise waste, seek to recover as much as is economically practical and ensure the remainder is disposed of responsibly
  6. Develop appropriate emergency response plans for major incidents in order to minimise their environmental impact
  7. Influence suppliers of services and own-brand goods to reduce their impact on the environment
  8. Enhance awareness of relevant issues among customers, colleagues and others who have an interest in our business
  9. Publish information on environmental performance
